Teddy Bear’s Birthday Party 🧸
Saturday, February 22 • 11:30–1:30 PM
A mock birthday party for children ages 4–7 with selective mutism and/or social anxiety
Birthday parties can be hard for children with selective mutism or social anxiety. We know that rehearsal helps, but birthday parties don’t happen often, and when they do, they can be busy and overwhelming, leaving parents feeling pressure and unsure how to best support their child.
Teddy Bear’s Birthday Party is a playful, low-pressure mock birthday party designed to help children warm up, speak with peers and adults (including employees), and use brave talking in a fun, supportive setting.
Led by selective mutism specialists Dr. Adelia Sabintsev and Dr. Lindsay Scharfstein, children will paint pottery, play, and celebrate together while clinicians gently support and expand speech using evidence-based PCIT-SM strategies. Parents will practice skills and learn how to support their child at real birthday parties and social events.
Eligibility
Children who are currently in PCIT-SM treatment or have previously completed PCIT-SM.
New Clients
Families new to both Dr. Sabintsev and Dr. Scharfstein must complete an intake session and fade-in session prior to the event. This can be done at the practice location closest to your home.
Fee
$320 per child (includes all materials and pizza lunch)

Spring 2026 CUB (Confident-Unique-Brave) Kids Group
This is a unique 6-session therapy group for children with selective mutism and/or social anxiety that includes parents. Parents play a crucial role in the treatment of Selective Mutism, so parents will learn evidence-based skills to assist their child through verbal practices while engaging in fun activities guided by Dr. Sabintsev. Children will have opportunities to strengthen their "brave muscles" through games and interacting with new adults and peers. Parents will emerge feeling empowered to help their CUB kid reach new levels of bravery!
Session 1: The first session is exclusively for caregivers and held virtually. During this session, caregivers will have a "walk through" of a session, where they will learn and practice the PCIT-SM skills necessary to help their child warm-up and communicate in social situations, such a playdate or other social gathering.
Session 2-6: Children will strengthen their "brave muscles" through engaging games and interacting with new adults and peers. Parents will gain significant experience supporting peer-to-peer speech and identifying verbal opportunities for their child. These activities and games help build bravery and confidence in group speech, peer interactions, and communicating with unfamiliar adults, such as teachers.
